Today, the European Commission has proposed a new Regulation for an EU-wide ban on four new psychoactive substances, currently being used as alternatives to illicit drugs. These new substances have already been linked to numerous fatalities and intoxications across the EU. The Commission is therefore proposing to ban the manufacturing and marketing of these new drugs and make their consumption subject to criminal sanctions across Europe. "Today's proposal is an important step in protecting our citizens – more and more young people are put at risk because of the growing number and availability of these dangerous substances," said Vice-President Viviane Reding, the EU’s Justice Commissioner. "In a borderless internal market, it is crucial to have common EU rules to tackle these new substances. Legal highs are not legal: they are lethal.” The Commission is proposing to ban the following substances: MDPV, 25I-NBOMe, AH-7921, and methoxetamine (for more detailed information on these drugs). A risk assessment carried out by the Scientific Committee of the Lisbon-based European Monitoring Centre on Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) also showed that these four substances do not provide any concrete medical benefits. Today's proposal follows the procedure for risk-assessment and control of new psychoactive substances set up by the Council: Decision 2005/387/JHA . It is now for the EU Ministers in the Council to agree on implementing this ban, voting by a qualified majority.

Klopt, maar doordat het (nu) steeds meer op EU Niveau op slot gaat vrees ik nu voor snellere 'lijstplaatsing'

Ja inderdaad, dat zou heel goed verkeerd kunnen gaan lopen. Ze moeten er onderhand toch wel achterkomen dat verboden niet werken?

Erg jammer. Hierdoor zal er weer eens troep in deze nu nog zeer schoon verkrijgbare substanties komen te zitten

En het is erdoor, binnen één jaar moeten alle Europese lidstaten het verbod nationaal hebben doorgevoerd. Naar alle waarschijnlijkheid komen deze stoffen dus met een noodvaart op lijst 1 te staan.

Today, EU Ministers adopted the European Commission's proposal to ban four harmful new psychoactive substances that, combined, have led to more than a hundred deaths across the EU over the past years. With today's decision, the substances MDPV, methoxetamine, AH-7921, and 25I-NBOMe will be subject to criminal sanctions across Europe and their manufacturing and marketing will become illegal (for more detailed information on these drugs). "This ban is a concrete step towards protecting our citizens. In a borderless Single Market, having common EU rules to protect people from the dangers of so-called legal highs is absolutely crucial," said Martine Reicherts, the EU's Justice Commissioner. "These drugs are like wolves in sheep's clothing. The ban voted on today will give them the criminal status they deserve. Legal highs are not legal: they are lethal!"

Today's decision by EU Ministers follows the procedure for risk assessment and control of new psychoactive substances set up by Council Decision 2005/387/JHA. In April this year, the risk assessment found that the four substances have no established medical or other known legitimate purpose and are being sold as alternatives for illicit drugs. The EU-wide ban adopted today will enter into force following its publication in the Official Journal, and Member States will have one year to introduce it into national legislation.

Ja opzich heb je daar wel gelijk in, vooral met hielenlikkerlandje Nederland wat overal bij wil horen ten koste van hun vroegere uitzonderlijke beleidsvoering...

Meh, het zou best mogelijk zijn dat MXE te koop wordt aangeboden om de straat/TOR netwerk. De synthese is relatief simpel, vergeleken met andere drugs die in het circuit omgaan en ondertussen heeft het best wel een naam opgebouwd. De kwaliteit was toch al niet zo zeker bij gewone vendors. :P

die kans is vrij groot, het is populair. Al hoorde ik ook dat er heeeeeeeeeel erg veel vergelijkbare en potentere dissociatieven mogelijk zijn. Zal misschien wel vrij snel vervangen worden voor iets anders dus.
