The Medical Centre of the city Utrecht (UMC), will be doing research, to see if the use of XTC has any negative effects to the human brain. They're trying to get volunteers, who are not familliar with the use of XTC, but are willing to try it.
Is XTC damaging for the brain ? Research showed that the 'party drug' XTC, caused braindamage to lab rats. The research also showed that after administering XTC, damaga was being done to cells of the so called 'serotonine system'. This 'system' is used for brainfunctions like, mood, impulsivity and memory.
Goal of the research is to find out more about the potential risks of XTC. This makes it possible in the future, to inform the drug users (to be). FOr this research the UMC is looking for people between 18 and 35, who frequently visit coffeeshops, but never have taken XTC, but are willing to try.
